As mentioned back in May, the South African Tourism office created a tourism layer for Google Earth. The layer is now in the Gallery->Travel and Tourism->South Africa Tourism layer folder. This layer has placemarks of interest all around the country including museums, beaches, safaris, surfing, hiking and more. Google Earth Blog

Google Earth Hacks and Google Earth Blog have gotten together to create a web site to allow people to share and view 3D locations using the Google Earth plugin. We're calling the site EarthSwoop for obvious reasons. Try the tour of NFL Stadiums, or MLB Stadiums and click on the team icons to "swoop" in to each 3D model of a stadium. Google Earth Blog

Pachube: This has the makings of something brilliant. Make Blog points to Pachube, a geo-savvy aggregator and browser of sensor data to which you can add your own data streams or use others’ as input for your own projects. Google Earth and Maps are useful ways to get current information for events like the fires raging in California right now. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection made a Google My Map that showed the current locations of fires. But, the Governor's office has just created a new map that has more current information. Google Earth Blog

Stereoscopic Google Earth in your browser! I again have no access to a Windows system, so I can’t test this, but I suspect that José Antonio Meira da Rocha’s implementation of a stereoscopic Google Earth in the browser by placing two instances of the Earth side by side but moving the point of view a little should be fantastic! José writes that he hacked the China Syndrome example om the GE 3D web plugin API site to get the result. Ogle Earth
